I am Chandan Kumar ALL Cancer Survivor from New Delhi, India. I am a development professional right now working with a US-based firm. I had blood cancer in 2005 and was treated at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi. My journey with cancer brought a different perspective to my life. It helps me to understand the people around me. I have seen and learned how society reacts to a child suffering from cancer (especially close relatives and friends). It was heart breaking and it made me to change my decision to make move from Bihar to Delhi, forever! Cancer also, took my three years of education. I had to face difficulties to go back to school. Although, it didn't bother me because I was a bright student since childhood I had performed well and covered up. The only challenge was I was doing all this at a very new place with new teachers and fellow students.
To reduce the stigma in society, I started talking about my story to people at a very early stage. I joined CanKids as a Volunteer and started KidsCanKonnect Survivor Group In New Delhi with my co-survivor leaders. We started building peer support and connected survivors across India. KCK started with the aim to reintegrate the survivors back into society as a normal person and to do cancer awareness through different activities. I enjoyed building this group and myself also as a part of it.
Later, I joined CanKids full-time and have worked in different capacities. To learn further I did my higher education in development management and moved to build more knowledge. I right now volunteer for my cause and gradually work on different campaigns/projects. I married my co-leader survivor Ritu Bhalla, who brings strings of joy and happiness into my life. I appeal to you also support and contribute to bringing happiness to the life of the BRAVEHEARTS fighting with cancer across India!!
