Greetings to all, I am Utkarsh Khandelwal. I am a lawyer practicing in Delhi and have signed up to be Atul’s buddy to support him in running the CanKids survivors’ marathon. I got in touch with him through this initiative and was moved by his story. It is inspiring how he has recovered and the zeal and vigor that he has. Frankly, I did not know him until recently, I have never met him, but his journey feels like a personal achievement.
I want to share with you all a small personal experience. This was 2021, and I was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai for some treatment. Admitted in the ward next to me was a 9-year-old kid going through a stem cell transplant after his cancer treatment, absolutely unaware of what was happening. Unfortunately, the kid could not survive the post-care phase of the procedure. It is just heart-wrenching to see a child go through this ordeal. That 9-year-old friend of mine could not make it due to medical complications, but it would be a personal failure for all of us if a kid does not survive due to a lack of basic resources which are at easy disposal for many of us. Atul here is an example of how children can survive and go on to lead a wonderful life, all they need is a chance. I request you all to be part of this initiative and support Atul who will be running the marathon on 15th January in Mumbai. Together we aim at raising Rs. 2,50,000, which will be utilized to help many such children fight cancer and have the life that they deserve.
