Intellectual disability has no cure and in more than 75% of the cases, the cause remains unknown. Although disability is neither contagious nor progressive, they are frequently excluded from social engagements. Being restricted to a monotonous environment, barred from society, these children get little or no stimulation, which can frustrate them and make them engage in aggressive behaviour. Addressing these long-term problems faced by Persons with Disabilities and their families is a major challenge. And we as a society need to ensure they are not alone in it. With community-led initiatives like Adhar, we are working towards securing their future. You too can make this world a better place for them by helping us reduce the stigma.
For the past 30 years, ADHAR is doing tremendous work providing a home for Intellectually Challenged adults. Adhar works on parents’ contribution (60%) & society’s support (40%). The Covid Pandemic has impacted all including Adhar where the parents’ contributions are diminishing due to the loss of income & aging parents’ scenario. This puts more burdens on the society’s support. Though Adhar did not shut even for one minute all throughout the pandemic, it’s added to its costs too much. The financials are affected badly as expenses are fixed and donations have dropped. The NGO needs your help to cover the running costs and bridge the widening deficit so Adhar can continue providing lifelong home that can keep the residents happy and comfortable 24x7
