People usually spend their whole life trying to find meaning in a job. They hope to find something they are passionate about, something that fulfills their purpose. I finally found mine, at Jai Vakeel. Hi! I am a volunteer at Jai Vakeel Foundation, a non-profit NGO that handles children and individuals with ID (Intellectual Disability). You may be wondering, what is ID? It is a condition where a person has an IQ of less than 70, which causes deficits in adaptive behaviors that affect their everyday life. 1 in 50 people in India suffer from ID, and yet one doesn’t see them. Jai Vakeel was started in 1944 with a simple idea to make a difference in the life of one child. Today, we touch the lives of close to 20,000 individuals across Maharashtra. We have 700 students between the ages of 3-50 years enrolled in our 3 branches in Maharashtra. We serve another 2,000 children with neurological disorders through our rural medical camps, and 18,100 more children who study in 436 special school across 36 districts in Maharashtra through Disha Abhiyan. At JVF, the teachers and support staff maximize the learning potential of individuals with ID. I invite you to come see the MAGIC ALL AROUND.
