It is estimated that nearly 50% of children in India face sexual abuse. To combat this, HEAL (Help Eradicate Abuse Through Learning), a Mumbai-based NGO, has been working in the area of child sexual abuse since 2008. I'm a 9th grade student of the Cathedral and John Connon School, participating in the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2023 to raise awareness and funds for the HEAL foundation, that aims to equip people with the ability to recognise and deal with sexual abuse as well as assist affected children in the best possible way. This is a very serious issue and the statistics of only reported cases alone are alarming. The only real weapon in this battle is awareness and prevention and the HEAL foundation works with communities and schools to achieve this.
