It is said ‘There is no place like home’. But have we ever given a thought to those who don’t have one? Don’t u think that no matter how big or small, everyone deserves to have a safe space, a place they can call home? And yet millions of people and children nation-wide, don’t have that safe space. Shelter is the most basic need of a human being. Since, for many of us shelter is a given, we may not give enough thought to how blessed we are to have the proverbial 'sar ke upar chhat'. However, not everyone is as fortunate. My thoughts led me to research into this social issue, and I’ve come to realise that this problem is far more serious than we could have ever imagined. In the past 35 years, Habitat for Humanity, India has worked across the country to help over 4.3 million people live in better conditions. • They create a habitat home for the undeserved communities. • They build accessible sanitation facilities in schools and communities. • They also improve preparedness of communities in risk prone areas and rehabilitate families in the aftermath of a disaster. Someone once said “empathy is a natural reaction to something sad, and action is a self-motivated mechanism to turn it around.” I don't promise you a wall with your name engraved on it.
