Mann is a charitable organisation which aims at making adolescents with disorders self-sufficient and work-ready so that they can provide for themselves. I had visited the centre in Santa Cruz where i could see them performing basic tasks like chopping vegetables in a disciplined manner. Mann has tied up with various companies which can employ these students.
The training programs include concepts, values, attitudes, knowledge and skills required to meet the challenges of society, which eventually translate to the individual’s effective participation and of reaching his/ her full potential. The programs offered are:
Mainstream Employment Program: This program is designed to integrate communication skills along with hands-on job specific skill training in areas like Housekeeping, Food and Beverage Service, Clerical and Labelling and Packaging, Travel training, Family counselling. Available positions are matched to the skills of the individual, and the needs of the employer.
Supported Employment Program: This program is for students with severe disability who may be unable to be mainstreamed. They are trained in concepts, vocabulary, and jobs, related to different vocations like tailoring, art and craft, kitchen skills, housekeeping skills along with appropriate social and interpersonal skills. After they graduate from the program they have the skill and opportunity to earn through production of handmade items, to fulfil orders procured from local businesses.
