What do we expect from a class of 8-year olds, when presented with - If I were the PM of this country? Free chocolates for all, 6 months of yearly vacation, more games are answers one would expect. A session with these kids that was intended to be fun, turned into an eye-opener. A few shy giggles and some coaxing later, it unfolded, unexpectedly. At 8, these children came up with issues like affordable and quality health and education, equity, decentralized governance, food security, natural resource management, land security, farmer’s rights, sanitation and hygiene. The age at which the seeds for these ideas are sown, isn’t a revolution but the result of a fear-free enabling environment that the school strives to create for every child, each day. The visionaries in them are kindled through a strong foundation of values and skills, while nurturing them emotionally, physically, and socially. During the Pandemic, the school has been constant in its efforts to ensure uninterrupted learning for the children. Limited or no internet connectivity at the teacher's and at the children’s end has forced the school to come up with innovative solutions. The teachers have been hand-delivering (and collecting back) lessons and assignments to the surrounding villages. Now the teachers are planning to travel to a village a day, and hold lessons in the open under the winter sun maintaining precautions If the students can’t come to the school, the school will go to the children Happy Donating

About Me
My association with CHIRAG has been enriching in ways that cannot be described. Their values reflect in the way they keep the community’s interest a foremost priority. CHIRAG school is a brilliant initiative to bring holistic education to the Kumaoni community of Uttarakhand. The cost of providing quality education to children at Chirag School is Rs. 28,000/child/year. The parents pay Rs. 150/month which covers less than 10% of the cost. Considering no amount is small (or big) and each contribution matters, especially in challenging times like these, every support is valuable. The donation link is COVID and everything safe :) An 80G receipt is issued to all Indian donors and emailed to the email-id provided at the time of the donation.
