Myna Mahila Foundation, founded by Suhani Jalota in Govandi slums; focuses on complete education with respect to Periods. Myna Mahila during their 'Sponsor a Girl' session have a complete teaching module that touches all aspects from- the biology of periods, myths, taboos and stigma associated with periods, health and nutrition and even hygiene practices that could be followed. That's not all! They also teach the girls about disposal and in the Hygiene kits called the Myna kits- each girl is gifted with a 3 month supply of sanitary pads, underwear, soaps, shampoos, disposal bags, and a Myna period tracker.
One of their pillars is 'To improve menstrual health and hygiene' and indeed they have kept the pillar's foundation so strong that no one can move these women and change their goals for the wellbeing of the women.
Afterall sanitary pads are a necessity and not a luxury. There are still women - not on, not two but a large number who to date use old rag cloths during menstruation and these rags are not new, well washes with hot water or dried under sunlight. These rags mostly already have fungus grown on them.. as they are washed and kept to dry under the bed-because of the stigma associated with it.
That is a lot of information to digest, isn't it! Help me to help these girls to see bleed with dignity. As we all know, Periods are a natural process.
