For a family from a disadvantaged community, education is the only way to get rid of the shackles of poverty. Akanksha aims to bring a positive and memorable school experience for thousands of children in the city of Mumbai and Pune for whom the school is akin to home. These first-generation learners do not have an environment that is conducive to learning at home. School, therefore becomes their space where they can be themselves. Unlike children from middle & high-income families, children from low-income backgrounds do not have access to opportunities and extracurricular activities. Akanksha schools aim to provide these opportunities in the school itself and thereby build a strong future for children who would otherwise be neglected by society. This year I’m supporting Akanksha’s 21 schools through my run at the TATA Mumbai Marathon to help thousands of children in Akanksha schools to enable them to get an education they deserve.
