i am participating in the 2020 TATA Mumbai Marathon to raise funds for women empowerment. From a very young age my parents have encouraged me to put my best foot forward and given me various opportunities. However many girls do not get the chance to explore opportunities and are often taken away from them because of their gender. I now understand how privileged and fortunate i am and now understand that not everyone has the same luxury. Living in a world that is constantly progressing and growing i think that gender equality is a topic that is very crucial and should be addressed as a serious concern by everyone in our society. My sister, being a social worker herself has always told me stories about her times in villages and how women are deprived of basic necessities such as education just because of their gender. This has been a very eye opening experience for me and i thought that me as an individual needed to do something to affect the situation positively. Everyone should get a fair change to do whatever they want no matter what their gender and should not be denied of opportunities because of their circumstances. This is why i am running the marathon to support these women and help them.
