HEAL (Help Eradicate Abuse Through Learning) is a Mumbai-based NGO working in the area of child sexual abuse since 2008. It is estimated that nearly 50% of children in India face abuse. Yet, we see HEAL through their awareness and sensitization workshops on child sexual abuse and body safety, which aim to equip adults to recognize and deal with child sexual abuse, as well as help the survivors the best they can; and help the children integrate a sense of body safety and autonomy. The vision thus upheld is to consciously create safe spaces like schools, communities, and homes, that can help in avoiding the horrors that a sexually abusive experience can bring about for children. We, the children of The Cathedral and John Cannon School are joining HEAL in their fight against child sexual abuse. You too can be a part of our efforts. Your donation, big or small will help us raise the funds for HEAL. These funds will be used to enhance HEAL's reach to various schools and communities, and thus create an ecosystem which is safer for children. Come join this fight, and donate now

About Me
Hi, My name is Aarav Bhansali aged 16 years, studying at the Cathedral & John Connon school. Since my childhood, I have raised funds for the underprivileged. During the lockdown, I heard horror stories of abuse to children - mental and physical. this led me to do my own research and understanding of how I can help or create awareness for these victims Child sexual abuse is a major public health problem. About 1 in every 4 girls and 1 in every 13 boys experiences sexual abuse at some time in their childhood. The vast majority of sexual abuse is committed by someone that the child or their family knows. The long-term emotional and physical damage after sexual abuse can be devastating to the child. Children who experience sexual abuse and other “adverse childhood experiences” (ACEs) such as physical abuse or neglect, have a higher chance of developing depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, drug addiction, and suicidal behaviors later in life. They also have a higher chance of developing physical conditions such as heart disease later in life. This is why it is so important to identify it as soon as possible, seek help for these children, and focus on preventing it in the future. Child sexual abuse often takes place within the family, by a parent, stepparent, sibling or other relative; or outside the home, for example, by a friend, neighbor, childcare person, teacher, or stranger. When sexual abuse has occurred, a child develops many distressing feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. Children may be threatened by the abuser and be fearful to tell anyone else, especially if the abuser is someone they know well. And that is why I have chosen to join hands with HEAL to make a safer and healthier environment for the children.
