Dear Friends , India has among the largest number of schools (over 1.5 million) and school-goers (over 260 million) in the world. However, despite efforts to ensure universal access to education, the country has a severe learning crisis. The National Achievement Survey (NAS) is a national level assessment conducted to obtain information about the learning achievement of students of Grades 3, 5, 8 and 10 across India. NAS 2021 has shown evidence of significant learning losses due to the pandemic. While learning gaps existed even before the pandemic, two years of lockdown exacerbated the gaps. The biggest cities in Maharashtra - Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Nasik - are in the bottom third performers on these assessments, despite having better public infrastructure resources Recognizing the need to work with government schools to achieve impact at greater scale, Akanksha began the School Project in 2007 in collaboration with the Municipal Corporations of Mumbai and Pune. The project aims to create a scalable school model within the government system that drives wider systemic reform in education. Today, Akanksha’s network has grown to 26 schools with more than 600 educators ,12000 students & 4000 alumni Your contribution would help The Akanksha Foundation to ensure High-Quality and Free Education to Children from Underprivileged Families and get their families out of poverty. About Me
Hi! My name is Mahika Punater and I’m a grade 11 student at the Cathedral and John Connon School. I love to dance and have been learning Bharatnatyam for almost 10 years now. I enjoy listening to music and love playing basketball. I am an avid reader, a foodie and become a baker in my free time. I am intrigued by photography, art and am a big animal lover as well. Learning new things and putting the pieces together in my head is something that excites me. The fact that many other children my age don’t have the resources required to arrange their own jigsaws and learn about things that could potentially intrigue them disheartens me. The Akanksha Foundation works to provide these tools by giving a nurturing learning environment to those from underprivileged backgrounds. I hope to create at least a ripple in this impactful movement of theirs.
