For a region to truly prosper, there is a need for its citizens themselves to bring about change and educate their community. The NGO,The Foundation, seeks to do just that. Through their REACH initiative (Restoring Education through equality and Advancement of Children) bright students from three underdeveloped regions in India- the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir and Manipur,- are chosen through a rigorous yet effective selection process and given an education in some of the nation's best educational institutions. After about 15 years, when they inevitably return to their homelands after completing their education, this time empowered and educated about the world, they themselves seek to improve their region for the development of its citizens. Whether this is manifested by traditional handicraft industries, businesses or setting up good schools, the results remain the same- a developed, self-sustainable and educated population.
