It is not news that the father of our nation emphasised on cleanliness during the British era and asked his wife to teach the lessons on cleanliness to the fellow county women. A country which is home to one of oldest civilizations of the world, the indus valley civilization is often famous for its unique sanitary drainage system. But now, still there are people in this country who are involved in open defecation. Isn't it a tragedy!. Did you know that one gram of faeces contains 10,000,000 viruses, 1,000,000 bacteria and 1,000 parasite cysts( source- unicef India official website). Hence open defecation can have a serious threat to the health of such communities. In addition to this women have to wait till the sun goes down to defecat and often face attacks and even snake bites. We do not realize the importance of something until it is snatched away from us. Being born in a privileged home, we hardly realize that the toilet which we use as necessity has been denied to a whole lot of people. Being a human being we are capable one thing that makes us unique and that is empathy, being able to step into someone else's shoes and imagine ourselves in their situation.
