I am running the Tata Mumbai Marathon this year for Concern India Foundation which supports a number of education programmes working with children, adults and people with special requirements in different parts of India. According to UNESCO nearly a fifth of our country is illiterate and there is a rise in school drop out rates among underprivileged children, especially girls. I believe that it is important to educate the underprivileged as this will in turn rectify the problem of unemployment, bonded labour and exploitation. I am hoping to play my tiny part in changing this by raising funds for Concern India Foundation and helping them in their work to abolish illiteracy in India, especially in convincing parents in both rural settlements and urban slum areas to send their children to school in their local areas.
