Who We Are

In India, despite 50 million children being at risk of intellectual and developmental disabilities, there is a significant lack of awareness with a scarcity of accessible information. Families seeking information have inadequate support, leading to delayed diagnoses and a lower utilization of services. They often struggle to contribute to their child's development, falling for unqualified practitioners who not only drain their finances and time but also provide treatments that do more harm than good to the child. It is vital to involve families in any initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of life for PwIDDs.

Nayi Disha addresses this issue by providing education, support, and hope to families affected by IDD, leveraging technology as a key tool. We have developed a web-based and mobile-accessible service platform (Nayi Disha) to scale our efforts. Our platform equips families with information and connects them to a network of services and other families. Our services revolve around providing trusted and verified information resources, a national directory of reliable service providers and a supportive and strong community of families in similar parenting stages.

Raising Funds For

This project aims to empower parents, families, during the critical transition to adolescence through a comprehensive series of workshops. The workshops will cover a wide array of essential topics, including strategies for handling difficult behaviour, imparting crucial life skills, supporting children with additional needs in exploring their unique potential, preparing parents as well as children for the challenges of puberty, and nurturing vocational skills.
Central to this initiative is the identification of each child's distinct interests and strengths, guiding them towards meaningful vocations. The Nayi Disha team recognizes the urgent need for such support, as there is currently a lack of awareness and training programs for families of young children, particularly in navigating the complex phase of puberty. This deficiency results in heightened stress levels within families, a lack of meaningful engagement for young individuals with disabilities, limited vocational preparedness, ongoing dependence on families, and potential mental health concerns due to insufficient activities for these youths. The project will collaborate with partner NGOs and parent groups, both in-person and remotely, to deliver workshops in Hindi, adapting a hybrid model to meet participant requirements.
