Project DescriptionChirag has been running a primary school since 2007. The focus is on delivering quality education in a rural setting to those children who come from financially disadvantaged households. In addition, most of these children do not have an environment of learning at home. Needless to say a lot of training and support on pedagogical practices is provided to the teachers. Chirag spends money on teacher's salaries, and training, develop reading materials, digital learning and technology of the school.

ImpactThe Chirag School served a catchment of approximately 10 villages, with approximately 150 households, over 60 percent of which fall in the BPL category, with a significant proportion also being in the scheduled caste category. The school gave preference to girls, children with special needs; children from below the poverty line, and children of single parents. The parents covered just about 7% of total educational expenditure. The school supported 120 children to pursue quality education in a regular schooling system. As a part of this initiative, it covered 93% of the total expenditure. It included providing monthly contributions, books, stationery, sports equipment, library facility, computer literacy, and field visits. It also facilitated learning opportunities in different areas of education for students pursuing higher study in Education, teacher trainee, fellows, and volunteer and in service teacher training.
