| Project Description | 125 Public Awareness events were conducted by our counsellors across Maharashtra, during TMM year 2023. Standees, banners, flyers (containing FAQs on organ donation) and Donor Cards were made. Standees and Banners were used as visuals aides prior to and during the awareness events such as awareness workshops and awareness kiosks. Such events were conducted in schools, colleges, offices, residential complexes, for staff of other NGOs, in police academies, as well as in hospitals & medical colleges for students and medicos. During such events, Informative Flyers are given out and the participants are encouraged to pledge their organs by signing up for a Donor Card either online or offline. MOHAN Foudnation'ss counsellors who conducted these programmes are highly trained Transplant Coordinators working in the Government Hospitals. In such events, they talk about the concepts of organ donation, importance of organ donation, what can be donated and by whom, some common myths and beliefs around organ donation and lastly how one can support organ donation (call to action). The Foundation has also created a few motivational films which are showed at such events. |

| Beneficiary Description | Direct beneficiaries of our awareness events are the general public, across age groups, gender, etc. Also the end beneficiaries of this programme are organ recipients who get the renewed lease of life through a life-saving organ, when the family of a brain dead patient has consented to donate their loved one's organs. This too is across age groups, genders and other categories of individuals. Since our initiatives are focussed on interventions inside and outside the Government Hospitals, every successful organ donation that happens, helps atleast one or more economically underprivileged patient get access to this life-saving medical advancement, free of cost or at subsidized cost in the public Hospital.

| Impact | Through the 125 awareness events, 8125 general public, police, medical staff in hospitals were made sensitized about the importance of organ donation, the dire need for supporting the cause and how they can do their bit to further the cause. Such awareness workshops are vital, as each participant from the general public is encouraged to normalise the conversation with their loved ones, around this difficult topic. Medicos are educated about the various aspects of organ donation and transplantation as this topic is not part of the formal MBBS curriculum. The police have an important role to play in Medico Legal cases where organ donation is a possibility - hence knowledge of their timely and important role is imparted to them. |
