Raising Funds For

Despite considerable economic progress in India in the last couple of decades, poverty has continued to pervade in urban slum communities. Children in these areas have been denied access to proper education with schools lacking basic facilities, teachers being unmotivated and lack of skills. Women in the community still do not have opportunities to grow skill sent leading towards employment and Youth without a proper source to enhance their life & of skill along with the education. VIDYA Mumbai addresses all these issues with its holistic programmes for Children, Youth & Women in slums areas of Mumbai

Project DescriptionThe Beyond School program at Chaitanya Nagar works with the goal of
an average increase in the learning levels of the students by 20 percent in
50 % students and 10 % in the remaining 50%, stemming drop out,
helping children achieve their full potential via academic enrichment,
awareness sessions, excursions, life skills and computer literacy—all
geared towards the making of responsible citizens in the future.

ImpactThe project has successfully reached the masses in the community. People from the community have benefited from the aspect at multiple levels. Students have grown in their literacy and numeracy levels. The rise in literacy and numeracy levels has shown positive growth in the learning and knowledge levels. The community transformation program has helped the women in the community to work on grave problems like alcoholism.

Project DescriptionMargam, since 2002 has been addressing the pressing needs for the women from the marginalized communities to identify and enhance their skills and make them financially independent and self-reliant.
The VIDYA Margam programme offers training in Functional Literacy, Spoken English, Computer Basics and Vocational Skill training like tailoring, block printing, embroidery, Mehandi and product making. The VIDYA women are constantly encouraged to enrol and engage themselves in courses and curriculum that are vital to build confidence, capability and self-esteem so that they could be contributing citizens of society.
