Our Sustainable Development Goals

Who We Are

A 33 year- old Non-profit, registered under Societies Act with FCRA and 80G certification. We address the lack of quality education and provide empowerment opportunities among the less privileged children, youth and women. VIDYA has it's presence in Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune. Seeded in Delhi in 1985, our Founder Rashmi Misra, began very modestly with a handful of girls, who had never been to school.

The VIDYA School in Gurgaon is one of a kind. A certified CBSE school for the less privileged, it provides opportunities to walk the path to a future which is second to none.

In Mumbai, during the year 2017-18 we have impacted 8000 children through our holistic learning interventions and 500 youth were provided employability courses, while working across 7 communities and 17 low-income schools. We are proud to say that we have 90 % pass rate at SSC boards, our students and alumni are empowered under the Scholarship Scheme. Majority our alumni is pursuing higher education. Our youth are doing well for themselves and have become the change-makers that VIDYA envisioned them as. They are also undertaking projects that transform the communities that they belong to!

“I like Drawing, so I joined MARGAM to learn Madhubani Art. Later I joined the USHA Integrated Tailoring course at VIDYA Margam to learn computers, English along with Tailoring”- Mangala Shinde, beneficiary of VIDYA Margam Program.

This is the social change brought about by VIDYA - from Education to Empowerment to Employability.

Raising Funds For

Hello Friends!
In India, 6 out of 10 students enrolled in primary grades drop out of secondary education, and in Mumbai, the dropout rate is sadly 17.66 %. The reason is mostly financial constraints. These children lose interest in studies because of lack of quality education in low income schools. This is where VIDYA intervenes by aspiring to provide quality education through holistic educational enrichment programs that integrate conceptual learning with life skills through innovative activities and engaged teachers.
Still continuing higher education is extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the children of the communities that VIDYA serves. The expenditure to pursue higher studies is quite high, ranging from Rs 5,000-20,000 per annum for government institutions and even more for private. Therefore, VIDYA has developed a scholarship program that gives financial support to carefully screened, economically weak beneficiaries who have demonstrated motivation and potential in their intellectual and career pursuits.
Meet Vikas and Megha, VIDYA Scholarship recipients who have overcome their hardships through dedication to their education and with the financial support from donors like you to the VIDYA scholarship program.
Vikas is one of our oldest beneficiaries of Beyond School program at VIDYA Mumbai and has been associated with VIDYA since 11 years. Today he is pursuing a course on Auto-Paint which was always his passion and a dream career. Vikas suffers from mild mental retardation but has passed Grade 10 this year with 43.20%. He has always been regular and also participated in various other engaging activities at VIDYA. He has worked very hard to pass class 10th and it was a moment of pride for all at VIDYA when he achieved this feat. With a family of 4 , father being a daily wage labourer and the only source of income for his family, they are financially unstable. VIDYA has extended support to provide him scholarship to pursue this course on Auto-painting at Don-Bosco Institute of Vocational Training in Kurla.
Megha joined VIDYA when she was in class 7 and she has recently passed class 10th with a 79% score. Currently, she is pursuing her FYJC in Science from National Junior college of Bhandup. She is a very bright student who actively participates in all activities at VIDYA. She was one of the student who actively interacted with Grade 10th students from across our border (Pakistan) through Skype call as part of our Lit Fest activity this year. She is also an active participant of our Youth Forum. She is a hardworking and confident girl and has come a long way. She stays with her mother who is working as a housemaid with a bare minimum monthly income for the entire family to survive. Megha’s parents are separated and Megha is her mother’s only hope.
Seeing such a tremendous change in Vikas and Megha, we are inspired to support more such deserving and needy students. We are building funds to help such deserving students overcome their circumstances and achieve their dreams by making higher education possible for them. With your support, we can create many more success stories and break the vicious cycle of poverty for these students.
