Raising Funds For

1) Education is one of the key focus areas of Tata Trusts, which addresses complex issues of quality and equity in school education by strengthening public education system. Through various education interventions, the Trusts build capacity of teachers for promoting foundational learning as well as foster 21st century skills among students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Along with interventional programmes covering various aspects of human development, the Trusts also engage with individuals to support the meritorious and needy, as our Founder Jamsetji N Tata believed “What advances a nation or a community is not so much to prop up its weakest and most helpless members, but to lift up the best and the most gifted, so as to make them of the greatest service to the country.”

Funds raised through Tata Mumbai Marathon 2024 will be utilized to support individuals in need through the Individual Grants Programme (Education), while ensuring a comprehensive, systematic and most importantly, fair and humane approach to identify such individuals. The Trusts follow a guiding principle on selecting meritorious students, which is to strive to lift the brightest and most talented, so as to make them capable of contributing towards the advancement of the nation.

2) The cost of health care in the country is a deterrent for many, and for those hailing from economically weak backgrounds, it is almost beyond reach, especially if the treatment warrants hospitalization, surgery or expensive treatments. Health insurance often does not cover heart ailments, cochlear implants and kidney diseases. Moreover, even for the conditions that they do cover, several insurers have set a ceiling on the expenses related to patient bed charges, cost of surgery, doctor’s fees, and this may not cover the entire cost of the treatment.

Funds raised through Tata Mumbai Marathon 2024 will be utilized to address these challenges, through extending medical grants in to individual needy patients requiring specific medical treatment. After due scrutiny and a socio-economic assessment of the family, the Trusts disburse grants based on the available funds. The Trusts liaise with like-minded philanthropic organisation and government bodies in order to maximize the quantum of grant to each beneficiary.
The Tata Trusts have been engaged for decades in the field of public health, with a focus on improving access to, and the quality of, healthcare by addressing the lacunae in human resources and infrastructure across the continuum of patients’ health and well-being, and by adopting technology to help reach scale and long-term impact.

Fund Utilization in 2023

Total funds raised in 2023 - INR 2204219

Project NameIndividual Grants MEDICAL
Amount Utilized (INR)2204219
Project DescriptionThe high cost of healthcare is a massive challenge for financially-disadvantaged patients and their families. This is especially true if the treatment warrants hospitalization, surgery, or expensive medicines or procedures.

To compound the issue, health insurance companies often do not cover many pre-existing conditions or ailments. Even when it comes to included conditions, several insurers have set ceilings on expenses related to patient bed charges, cost of surgery, doctor’s fees, etc. Thus, health policies frequently do not cover the entire cost of the treatment.

A medical emergency drains lower-income families of their financial, mental, and physical strength, leaving them helpless and despondent. Many of these families push themselves deep into debt by taking expensive loans to fund the treatment.
The project has supported the medical cost of the financially needy patients.
