Who We Are

DATRI founded in the year 2009 is the India's largest blood stem cell registry. The cause we address is blood disorders (leukemia, lymphoma, etc) and its possible cure through blood stem cell donation.

In India, there are on average 40 adults diagnosed with fatal blood disorders every day. About 10,000 children are born with Thalassemia every year. Despite undergoing painful chemotherapy, most patients with blood disorders die because they have faulty blood stem cells. The only treatment option is to replace their faulty blood stem cells with healthy blood stem cells from matched donors. However, the probability of finding a matched blood stem cell donor is 1 in a million.

DATRI currently has over 5 lakh donors and yet we are barely making a dent in the requirement from patients. As of now, we have 2500+ patients waiting for a match, many are little children with leukemia, aplastic anemia, etc. While they wait for their match, they undergo chemotherapy. So, in many cases, by the time the elusive match is found, either the chemotherapy takes the patient or cancer does! The best-case situation is one where, when a patient comes to us looking for a match, we are able to find him/her a match immediately from the already registered donors and can facilitate the donation immediately, thereby significantly increasing the patient's chances of survival. But in order to do so, keeping in mind the very low odds of finding a match, there is a need for a much larger registry.

Therefore we seek support from corporates and fundraising platforms to bridge the gap between the number of patients and donors. We also work a lot on creating awareness about the cause as very less Indians are registered as donors because they do not have access to the correct information. We would like to participate in the fundraising platform to serve with the best honesty to the people who needs it the most
