Who We Are

Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) is a registered charitable NGO established in 1969, working towards the 'Total Management of Cancer' for the last 50 years. Although life threatening, cancer is curable if it is caught early and appropriate treatment is provided.

The COVID-19 pandemic will have a major impact on cancer care. Cancer patients, particularly poor patients cannot access health treatments due to overwhelmed health-care facilities in major hospitals across the country. Many underprivileged patients travelling to and fro for treatment from towns and villages were stranded due to lockdown and suspension of transport. The delay in treatment or detection of new cases and the higher risk of COVID-19 infection in cancer patients is likely.

As rightly said by CPAA's Founder Chairman Mr. Y. K. Sapru, "Though treating hospitals are taking utmost care to best manage patients, increased out-of-pocket expense related to accommodation, food, medicines and travel is an ongoing challenge which has accentuated during the lockdown. When the lockdown ends, there will be a backlog and we expect a sharp increase in the number of patients seeking financial assistance for treatment as many people have lost their livelihoods" in the article 'Lockdown poses new challenges for cancer care in India' published in the Lancet Oncology Journal.

CPAA is an organization that provides holistic support to needy cancer patients. The objective of the Society is to alleviate the suffering of the poor cancer patients by providing assistance right from diagnosis, medical aid, counselling and awareness to rehabilitation.

Raising Funds For

A cancer patient who is a school going girl, was diagnosed with ALL - Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (a type of blood cancer) in 2010 and was treated in Wadia Hospital for 4 year and now is on maintenance. She is a fighter. But due to the Covid 19 pandemic the burden on cancer care has increased dramatically. Many unlike her have got stranded and displaced, this has resulted in a gap in their treatment. Also they are more vulnerable to infections. By your contribution, their medication and treatment needs will be met, patients will be provided medical aid, rations, counselling etc. CPAA will assist them for whatever their needs maybe. CPAA appeals to all its donors to contribute and support the cancer patients. No donation is big or small. its every drop that makes the ocean.

Fund Utilization in 2020

Total funds raised in 2020 - INR 17393524

Project NameMedical Aid for cancer patients
Amount Utilized (INR)15890000
Project DescriptionThe funds raised by CPAA in TMM 2020 were utilized primarily for providing Medical Aid of Cancer Patients. Underprivileged cancer patients were provided with aid in the form of lifesaving chemotherapy drugs, investigations, radiation etc. The aid was provided to cancer patients from all age groups suffering from various cancers according to the treatment protocol prescribed by the treating oncologist. Many underprivileged cancer patients stop treatment, due to lack of funds. The funds raised from TMM have enabled the patients to continue with their treatment. Apart from medical aid, nutritional aid (diet supplements and food grains) were also given to the cancer patients.

The funds were also utilized for HPV vaccination and screening for cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is a high incidence cancer in India and can be prevented. Cervical cancer prevention through a HPV vaccination drive has been implemented by CPAA in school girls of a socio-economically poor background in parts of rural and urban Maharashtra. At CPAA we have also established a screening test for HPV to screen for cervical cancer in underprivileged women.
