Who We Are
Jeevan Asha Charitable Society is a non-profit organization reaching out to socio-economically challenged communities in Thane and beyond through education and basic healthcare.
Born out of a dream, Jeevan Asha was founded by Basil D’Souza in April 1999. Its vision was inspired by a deep, strong desire to ‘bring hope to many lives by serving local communities through various projects’. Child and adult literacy was foremost; because education is a key tool in breaking the curse of illiteracy, thus bringing to an end the vicious inheritance of poverty.
In response to this acute necessity, Jeevan Asha’s flagship project - the ‘Day Care Centre’ in Thane, commenced in August 2000 to reach out to children from marginalized families.
As a result of our work with the children, we gained the confidence of the community and we branched out, addressing the health and nutritional needs of women and children.
Today, under the two verticals of Education and Health Care, we bring holistic development to twenty one socio-economically challenged communities.

Raising Funds For
Education - Our Hope Learning Centre as the name suggests, brings hope and transformation through care and education. This project reaches nearly 50,000 children living in five disadvantaged socio-economical areas in Thane. Education is our mission but holistic development is our heart. Classes are taught in safe, secure, clean environments where our goal for mental, emotional and physical well-being is prioritized over a child’s academic performance. Our educators intentionally teach using play-way methods to ensure positive learning environments which enhance the chances of students developing a love for learning. Fresh, nutritious meals are provided every day because we focus on and value our students’ Holistic development.
Health - In recognizing the high percentage of health challenges faced by people in underserved communities, Jeevan Asha conducts Testing Camps in various locations. These Camps are free, run by qualified doctors, nurses, paramedics and healthcare workers and designed to increase access to quality services and healthcare.
