Who We Are

Mentaid is the first registered parents organization in West Bengal for the intellectually disabled (1986). A majority of the executive committee members are parents. The vision is to empower, secure rights and improve the quality of life of persons with intellectual disability and their families.
Mentaid offers a host of services including assessment, early intervention, special education, vocational training, self-advocacy training, counselling and referral. Mentaid has conducted seminars, workshops, several trainings for parents, awareness programs in regular schools, colleges, hospitals and community clubs. As a step towards inclusion, annual programs such as the concert, sports and celebration of world disability day are always inclusive. An e-newsletter is brought out monthly.
Mentaid networks with organizations working with all disabilities across the country and is in the forefront of the parents’ movement.
Mentaid is registered under 12 A of the IT Act, FCRA Act, National Trust Act. Raising Funds For

Mentaid provides services for children with intellectual disabilities, 50% of whom come from economically deprived homes. The challenge is therefore greater. A great number have severe or multiple disabilities and the teacher/pupil ratio in these cases is high.(1:2) The cost of the individualized education and training is therefore high.
We are reaching out for support during this challenging time to ensure that we can continue to provide services now and going into the future. With the pandemic we have temporarily closed the school and vocational training and support is being provided virtually to ensure the safety of our children, some who are extra susceptible. Our staff have remained committed to the development of the children and we thank you for supporting us as well.
