Who We Are

PETA India, based in Mumbai, was launched in January 2000. It operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way, while also educating policymakers and the public about animal abuse and promoting an understanding of the right of all animals to be treated with respect.

PETA India focuses primarily on the areas in which the greatest numbers of animals suffer the most: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the leather trade, and in the entertainment business. PETA India’s investigations, public education efforts, research, animal rescues, legislative work, celebrity involvement, and national media coverage have resulted in countless improvements to the quality of life for animals and have saved countless animals’ lives. PETA India’s Compassionate Citizen humane education program, has been used by almost 2 lakh schools across the country and has provided about 90 million students with accessible and fun lessons in empathy and kindness.

Raising Funds For

Funds raised will support PETA India’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) programme. PETA India’s trained emergency rescue staff respond to calls 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In a year, they responds to more than 90,000 calls. The team consists of two veterinarians, six veterinary assistants and seven emergency response coordinators. They operate in Delhi and Mumbai, often reaching animals no other agency will help, and assist animals throughout India through their network. Calls in the last year involved dogs, cats, cows and bullocks, camels, horses, donkeys, monkeys, and other animals. More than 2,600 calls involved abuse that required cruelty investigations and responses.
