Raising Funds For

COVID-19 has led to isolation, uncertainty, anxiety and fear that threaten to wreak havoc across ages, geographies and socio-economic levels. The worst hit are at-risk children in India. Due to school shutdown, 12 crore students are missing mid-day meals and learning, potentially risking cognitive and mental development. Many are also losing out on quality learning as 77% urban and 70% rural population have inadequate education to teach their kids at home. Rise in unemployment is likely to spike school drop-outs and child labor.
With many organizations addressing the need for food and medical relief for vulnerable communities, underprivileged children’s mental well-being deserves as much attention. Faced with economic stresses, disrupted routine, separation from peer groups and lack of safe spaces, it's crucial that they stay stimulated and stress-free to navigate stressful circumstances with resilience. During the lockdown, Toybank adopted an alternative method to our in-person Play Sessions. We are providing them routine-like normalcy, meaningful engagement and mental stimulation through #ToybankPlayAtHomeKits that includes games and activities. We seek support in actively recalibrating our delivery model towards developmental and learning outcomes and build resilient children who can come out of adversities unscathed

Project DescriptionToybank believes that investing in young children through early childhood development programs ensures that they have the right stimulation and nurturing. We believe that it is the most important investment to address inequality, break the cycle of poverty and improve outcomes later in life. Once a child comes into a safe space, it learns to open up to learning and playing. A safe and happy Childhood builds a safe community there by leading to a stronger and more empowered society as a whole.

Beneficiary DescriptionThrough our play sessions and activities, we reach out to at-risk children. These are children who are most deprived in our society including orphaned, children with hearing, speech, visual or mental challenges, rescued children, children who are at conflict with the law and who have been victims of abuse. Most of the children who we work with are subject to health problems, substance abuse, theft, harassment , physical and sexual abuse. They may come from low income or at times even below poverty line economic backgrounds.

1. Social and emotional skills
2. Life skills
3. Cognitive Skills
4. Fine and Gross Motor skills
5. Language skills

Toybank addresses a very subtle subject in the social arena for children. It is a powerful challenge
that it is undertaking which is almost always over-looked by many of us who are in the process of
change. It provides infinite happiness in the lives of children and gives them a chance to dream, to
come out of their shells, and to be children once again.

Project NamePlay2Smile
Amount Utilized (INR)30000
Project DescriptionPlay2Smile (P2S) is a collaborative initiative under Toybank-The Opentree Foundation. Toybank
collaborates with hospitals and paediatric centres to offer power of play to children undergoing
treatments. Play therapy helps children with trauma resolution, social integration, growth and
development and emotional modulation. The objective is to bring positive experiences and lessen
children’s anxiousness while visiting such centres.
Toybank – Play2Smile Centre will be activated at centres, which will have toys and games for the
children to play with. Through the P2S initiative Toybank will donate toys and games to the
Play2Smile centres. These will then be used to lessen anxiety and for stress reduction of the kids
visiting the centre.

ImpactAt Toybank we realise that when children are unwell and undergoing treatment or exposed to the
hospital environment, their usual routines are disrupted. Some of them are separated from their
families and other familiar people or spaces for periods of time. Play2Smile provides access to Play
to children at Hospitals and Palliative Care Centres. We set up libraries basis the need assessment of
the various spaces.
The objectives of Play2Smile
1) create an environment where stress and anxiety are reduced;
2) catering to the emotional and mental needs of the individual.
3) provide the individual with the means with which to cope with diagnosis, illness and
treatment, which ultimately gives control back to the individual;
4) reduce developmental regression and therefore promote confidence, self-esteem and
independence;
5) making the individual feel at ease in the surroundings and the experiences of the hospital;
6) facilitate appropriate channels of communication between the patient, the family and
relevant health care professionals;
