Aligned to the following Sustainable Development Goals

Who We Are

The Foundation believes that in the long run, disadvantaged parts of the world can only be economically and socially uplifted by the inhabitants of the region itself i.e. people that are ancestrally and culturally linked to the land.
To that end, The Foundation has decided to work in parts of India with below average developmental indices from where it will select children and give them an unparalleled education from grade 6 up to employability coupled with multifaceted experience and exposure both deep and wide so that in 15-17 years, they assume the role of thought leaders and change makers and help in creating and contributing to the wisest and most sustainable development in their homelands.
We have called this initiative REACH (Restoring Equality through Education and Advancement of Children)

Raising Funds For

Covid-19 has impacted all our lives profoundly, and our children faced a very difficult time too. Schools and colleges were shut for over a year and children were forced to adapt to a new way of learning - the online education. While this has been a great respite, it has also restricted any exposure or experiential learning that the children may have had in their school campuses.

At The Foundation we strongly believe in holistic learning, and that cannot be achieved through text books. We work with children from marginalised communities, wherein the whole point of educating them is to provide them with the right exposure and experiences, which has been lacking in the schools of their home states.

The funds we will raise with the help of your generous donation will help us to conduct workshops, pay school and college fees and also to provide the children with exposure and experiences, which will enable them to develop into individuals with the right values and mindsets. Therefore, we appeal to you to donate generously, because every child counts and it is our bounden duty to ensure that no child is left behind in the run for receiving a holistic education.

*The parents / families learn from the children, and have also changed their views especially about issues like violence, extremism in religion, the freedom of thought and gender equality.

**Inspired by their elder siblings some of our children’s brothers and sisters have applied to top schools in the country themselves and are studying there on scholarships!

An indirect reach of over 1000 people.
*Our students continue to go back to their old schools where they completed their grade 5 (or grade 6) before they got their scholarship and take back their learnings and methods of alternative teaching to the classroom. Some of them associate closely with the schools in which their siblings study. One of the Kashmir girls even started a marathon for women with the help of her old school to normalize the idea of women independently inhabiting public spaces.

**They have inspired people from their communities and members of their extended families to go out of the villages to get a good education and opened their minds to opportunities.

Fund Utilization in 2019

Total funds raised in 2019 - INR 8666171

Project NameHEAL
Amount Utilized (INR)3658826
Project DescriptionHEAL (Help Eradicate Abuse through Learning) has been working against child sexual abuse since 2008. We envision a community that upholds and values the rights of its children by protecting them from sexual abuse and enables the healing of survivors through sensitive and long-term companionship.
1.Prevention Workshops: HEAL has mobilized over 810 adults and 650 children, through preventative education, since August 2018. Adults, consisting of teaching and non-teaching staff of schools, parents of children, professionals working with children at various organisations, etc. have been equipped to tackle CSA at their individual capacities.
2. Counselling/therapeutic services: Mental health response to disclosures of CSA requires a compassionate, trauma-informed team of professionals, who put the survivor’s needs at the forefront. To this end, we have built expertise in providing psychotherapeutic services to adult and child survivors of child sexual abuse. Since August 2018, we have extended long term psychotherapeutic services to 7 survivors across Mumbai.
3. CWC Training: Heal trained the batch of 45 newly recruited CWC members and Chairpersons of Maharashtra, on ‘Working with Children: Understanding the Child: How to make CWC Child Friendly’ with a focus on CSA.
LocationsMumbai City > Maharashtra (MH),Mumbai suburban > Maharashtra (MH)
CausesHealth > Mental Health ,Public Safety > Awareness and Advocacy
Beneficiary GroupChildren,Others
Beneficiary Description1. Adults: 880 people above the age of 18 of all genders. 2. Children: 657 people below the age go 18 of all genders
ImpactThrough our prevention workshops, we have been able to engage and mobilize the adults in a child’s life to feel equipped to deal with a CSA disclosure from a child at their individual capacity. Similarly, equipping a child with age-appropriate, personal safety information has helped children from varied socioeconomic backgrounds, with practical skills to seek help.

A survivor’s mental health needs seem to feature at the bottom of a list of priorities for many. To fight this, Heal has relentlessly partnered with private practitioners who’ve been providing counselling/ therapeutic services to 7 survivors across the city. Through our work we have been able to ensure trauma-focused counselling services to attend to the adjustment needs of the client.
