Honouring the Swachh Society Awards Winners

Swachh Society Awards was launched by ICICI Bank in July 2016 as a unique inter-society contest to recognize and reward clean and green residential housing societies in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The objective is to sustain the spirit of the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ movement, as well as recognize and celebrate excellence in cleanliness and safety and adoption of green technology in housing societies.

United Way Mumbai (UWM) has expertise in the field of cleanliness and water resource and waste management, and has been the Community Impact Partner in the Swachh Society Awards, evaluating and assessing good practices among housing societies.

      

The Swachh Society Awards contest received entries from over 7000 residential societies in MMR in over 50 days in July and August this year. The shortlisted entries were validated through a society visit by United Way Mumbai team.

An eminent jury, comprising Ms. Seema Redkar, former Officer on Special Duty of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai; Ms. Radhika Kaji, Advisory Board member of Cloud Income Properties, entrepreneur and philanthropist and Mr. Saurabh Singh, President, ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, selected the final winners.

The Swachh Society Awards ceremony was held on 2nd December 2016, at ICICI Bank’s corporate office at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis presented the awards to the winners.

      

The Winners of Swachh Society Awards are as below:

  • The Top Mega Award – Gold was awarded to Vijaynagar Co-operative Housing Society Limited, Andheri East.
  • The Second Mega-Award – Silver was awarded to Anand Kores Towers Co-operative Housing Society Limited based in Thane.
  • The Third Mega Award – Bronze was awarded to Ashok Towers Co-operative Housing Society Limited, Parel.
  • The winning societies were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 15 lakh, Rs 5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh respectively.
  • Sealine Co-operative Housing Society Limited in Khar West was presented with the Clean Crusader Innovation Award for implementing green ideas in its society, which shone as a model green society in vicinity of Mumbai Suburbs. The award also included a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh.
  • Categories Award winners:
    • Large Society Category Gold was awarded to Mahindra Splendour Co-operative Housing Society Limited, Bhandup and Large Society Category Silver was awarded to a PSU colony B.P.C.L Staff Colony, Trombay.
    • Medium Society Category Gold was awarded to Mahindra Eminente Co-operative Housing Society Limited, Goregaon and in Medium Society Category Silver was awarded to Tarangan Tower Co-operative Housing Society Limited, Thane.
    • Small Society Category Gold was awarded to Sealine Co-operative Housing Society Limited, Khar (W) and in Small Society Category Silver was awarded to Mercury Co-operative Housing Society Limited, Airoli.
  • Each of the recipients of the Categories Awards received a cash prize Rs. 1 lakh for Gold and Rs. 75,000 for Silver, respectively.
  • The winners will be using these prize money towards building infrastructure for clean, green and safe societies.
  • Special Appreciation Awards were presented to 18 participant societies in all 3 categories large, medium and small for their initiatives to make their society clean, green and safe society.
