Raising Funds for

Project Nanhi Kali

Against a backdrop of spiraling population rates, low female literacy levels and female workforce participation, Anand Mahindra began Project Nanhi Kali in 1996 with the objective of educating girls in India. Today, Project Nanhi Kali is one of the country’s largest programmes that enables girls from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds to complete 10 years of schooling with dignity. Project Nanhi Kali is jointly managed by K.C. Mahindra Education Trust and Naandi Foundation. Every girl in the project is provided with 360-degree support which includes: • Daily academic support at Nanhi Kali Academic Support Centres where trained tutors engage the girls in concept-based learning through a specially designed pedagogy • An annual school supplies kit consisting of a school bag, personal clothing, shoes, socks, stationery, a pullover/raincoat and feminine hygiene material • Digital tablets with pre-loaded audio-visual educational content are provided to all girls studying in Secondary School • Extensive community engagement and sensitisation activities are conducted with the aim of creating conducive, girl friendly eco-systems Over the last 2 decades, Project Nanhi Kali has educated over 375,000 girls in remote rural, tribal and urban poor areas across India. At present, the project is supporting over 165,000 girls in 10 states.
