Blood Donation Drive, 2016

According to National AIDS Control Organisation, India experiences acute shortage of blood. While the requirement is around 8.5 million units of blood annually, the actual availability is 4.4 million units. Moreover, only 52% of the donations are from voluntary donors. Clearly, there is an urgent need to spread awareness regarding the need for blood donation.

To counter this problem, United Way Mumbai, in partnership with Tata Capital Limited, has conducted blood donation camps across 22 Tata Capital offices in 20 cities. This year, the event has been a huge success, with enthusiastic responses, leading to the collection of 846 units of blood, a significant increase from 2014 (646 units were collected that year). This heartening response will go a long way in reducing the deficit of blood donations in the country.
