About Me

I am Avinash Ashok Narvekar, raised in a middle-class family. My earliest memories in Mahalakshmi, Mumbai, are of learning the value of every single penny. That lesson, etched deep into my heart, continues to guide my family even today, reminding us that humility and modesty are treasures greater than wealth.
Life taught me early on how fragile an average household in India can feel when illness strikes. I have seen the way it shakes not just finances, but spirits. That understanding, and my compassion for those weighed down by grief, became the spark that pushed me to contribute — to stand beside those who suffer, even in small ways.
Running was never my calling. In fact, it came to me when my world was falling apart, when I had no one to lean on and no place to escape. What began as a desperate attempt to outrun pain slowly transformed into a source of joy, strength, and purpose. Step by step, I discovered that running wasn’t just about endurance — it was about healing.
And then came the Mumbai Marathon. To witness thousands of aspiring athletes, strangers bound together by a common cause, was nothing short of magical. It was as if the city itself was running — carrying hope, resilience, and unity in every stride. For me, it wasn’t just a race; it was proof that even in the toughest times, passion can turn struggle into triumph.

Appeal

Compassion is the natural language of the human heart — an instinctive ability to feel for those who suffer. It was compassion that moved Siddhartha to step away from the luxuries of his palace, a choice that eventually led to his enlightenment and inspired countless others to follow his path. In today’s world, we may not be able to walk exactly in Gautam Buddha’s footsteps, but we can embrace his spirit by offering a part of our earnings to noble causes that ease the burdens of others.
I often found myself wandering through the corridors of the Tata Cancer Institute, where the sight of suffering weighed heavily on me. I would ask myself: how could I, in my own small way, help? In those days, the absence of genuine non-profit organizations and the lack of digital avenues made me hesitant, unsure if my contributions would ever reach the people who needed them most.
But times have changed. The world has grown closer, more connected, and today I feel assured that my aid will reach the right hands. It fills me with pride to contribute, even in modest measure, to the iconic Tata Cancer Care Foundation — an institution that stands as a beacon of resilience and compassion. For millions, it has transformed the fight against cancer, making treatment not only affordable but also a little less unbearable.
To me, this act of giving is more than charity; it is a way of honoring the compassion that binds us all, a reminder that even the smallest contribution can ripple outward to touch lives in profound ways.
