About Me
My name is Ivanka Castro, and I am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. During one of my college projects, I had the opportunity to work with different NGOs, and that is when I came across Aftertaste.
Seeing the work NGOs do up close gave me a new level of respect for their dedication. It is one thing to read about social work in theory, but witnessing it in real life, meeting women who are rebuilding their lives, watching artisans create with patience and pride, and seeing teams work quietly behind the scenes showed me how powerful community effort can be.
As a mass communication student, I’ve learned the power of narratives, the importance of visibility, and how strong communication can uplift entire communities. I want to use those skills, my voice, my empathy, my time to help NGOs reach more people, grow bigger, and create deeper impact. For me, helping NGOs is not just volunteer work. It is a way to use what I am learning in college for something real, something human. It feels like contributing to a larger purpose, one that focuses on dignity, opportunity, and genuine change.
Appeal
I want to help NGOs because I know I have the ability to make even a difference. Every story of a woman fighting for dignity, every child dreaming beyond their circumstances, every family trying to build a better life, they remind me that change doesn’t come from grand gestures, but from people who care enough to show up.
I want to use whatever skills I have, my voice, my time and my compassion to support those who rarely get heard. Helping NGOs gives me a chance to give back, to be part of something bigger, and to stand with people who are trying to rewrite their futures.
