About Me

My passion is to see community empowered. My focus is to raise awareness on human trafficking and my desire is to see individuals enjoying their rights and freedom in a safe atmosphere without any hustle and danger.
Traffickers find vulnerable people in need and groom them for being trafficked. Several women and young girls are at-risk and fall prey to traffickers who offer immediate economic support and false promises of well-paid jobs in a distant city or country. Our mission is to provide for the needs of these women and their families during this pandemic which in turn protects them from potential traffickers.

Aruna- Drop-in Centre, Pragatinagar Nalasopara

In 2023, After 26 years of Oasis India’s presence in the red-light area of Grant Road, we felt the need to move our operations to Nalasopara which was a growing hub of human trafficking.

Pragati Nagar in Nalasopara was selected after surveying few other locations in Mumbai suburbs. The community is known for its criminal activity. We see drug peddlers and many youth and men addicted to drugs, women who are commercial sex workers, eunuchs who are influencing the children in vile activities, children and youth fending for themselves through rag picking and are completely without any parental care and supervision.

Having identified these issues, and also connecting with the community, a small apartment was identified in the community and set up as an office space cum education and training centre and the project commenced in April 2023.

In order to do this Oasis runs projects and initiatives under six core areas, Prevention, Education, Sports, Rehabilitation, Skilling and Community Building. The present skilling activities include training in vocational skills like Hair styling, Tailoring, Patient care & Baking. Oasis also runs an employment readiness program that includes Teaching English & Computer for the youth in the community. Thereby transforming lives, and I want to do my part to help them go further.
