I started my career journey in 1989 with The Vatsalya Foundation. I am presently holding the post of Trustee/Executive Director in The Vatsalya Foundation, Mumbai working with marginalized communities in Urban and Rural regions. The Vatsalya Foundation, established in 1982 is a right based organisation empowering child in need of care and protection to ensure a better future. The Vatsalya foundation reaches out through its multilevel approach of ‘on the street’ reach out project, child to child contact, daycare centres, shelterhome and rural development projects in Greater Mumbai as well as Shahapur, Murbad and Kasara in Thane District, Maharashtra.

INTRODUCTION /BACKGROUND OF THE PROGRAM
The Supplementary Nourishment Program for community homeless children
aims at providing a healthy nutritious meal for the homeless children in North
Mumbai Areas
RATIONALE OF THE PROGRAM
“Food should be a love offering.”- Swami Satchidananda
Consumption of healthy, nutritious meals is extremely vital to physical and
cognitive development in children. Homeless children lack access to proper
meals, making them victims of malnutrition, and susceptible to deadly diseases.
This places them at a competitive disadvantage, and in the long run, hampers
their growth in society. This project aims at curbing food insecurity amongst
homeless children and ensuring their good health through healthy nourishment.
It would also act as an incentive to encourage the children in pursuing the
education programme.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
• To provide nutritious, healthy, wholesome food for the children prepared
in hygienic conditions.
• To help increase the immunity of the children.
• To improve the status of health and nourishment amongst homeless
children of Bandra and Mahim outreach areas.
• Organizing awareness sessions for parents regarding the child’s future.
ESTIMATE BUDGET
We at The Vatsalya Foundation seek financial support to provide food to 200
homeless children at our outreach contact points.
