My Appeal

A devastating second wave of COVID-19 is sweeping across India, fueling a massive spike in the number of cases. India reports 2.22 lakh new Covid-19 cases and 4,454 deaths in the last 24 hours. Healthcare providers and facilities are overwhelmed by this surge, and critical medical supplies like oxygen concentrators are quite scarce. In order to do our bit amidst the pandemic revolving around, the MSR Committee (a social committee that aims to work for betterment of the society) of N. L. Dalmia Institute of Management Studies and Research (A business school situated in Mira Road, Mumbai, Maharashtra) in collaboration with United Way Mumbai, brings you all an opportunity to help our healthcare workers stay safe and care for these rising numbers. Your contribution of even ₹100 will make a huge difference in this Fight Against Covid-19.

EQUIP HOSPITALS AND HEALTHCARE WORKERS
Our public health infrastructure is currently overwhelmed and struggling to cope with the surge in cases. To stay safe and cater to the needs of their patients, healthcare personnel require PPE Kits and medical equipment.

SPREAD AWARENESS ON COVID APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR AND VACCINATIONS
COVID-appropriate behaviour such as wearing masks, social distancing and sanitisation are still improperly followed and are worsened by rumours regarding vaccination, leading to people hesitant to take their shots. We aim to spread awareness about COVID-19 within low-income communities through mass awareness drives, community walks, one-on-one health enquiry, liaising with local government and community influencers.

FACILITATE VACCINATIONS FOR LOW INCOME COMMUNITIES
We also aim to facilitate vaccine registrations in low-income communities in consultation with district and public health officials. Our teams will assist individuals in registering for the vaccine and provide transport to the vaccine centre for remote areas. The team will also follow up with them to ensure the second dose of vaccine is taken as per schedule.

My Appeal

It was Winston Churchill who once said “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give”. We can't deny the fact that healthcare and livelihood are the most affected areas due to the Covid-19 pandemic. While we continue to stay safe and comfortable in our homes, daily wage earners and street vendors haven’t found ways to meet their basic needs. In order to do our bit amidst the pandemic revolving around, MSR Committee (a social committee that aims to work for betterment of the society) of N. L. Dalmia Institute of Management Studies and Research (A business school situated in Mira Road, Mumbai, Maharashtra) in collaboration with United Way Mumbai, brings you all an opportunity to help those that are experiencing a loss of livelihood. Your contribution of even ₹100 will make a huge difference in this Fight Against Covid-19.

HELP WOMEN EARN A LIVELIHOOD
The nationwide lockdowns badly affected daily wage earners and self-employed persons through loss of jobs. We will promote entrepreneurship among women, addressing low female labour force participation by supporting women with occupational tools that will allow them to start their own entrepreneurial ventures from home.

HELP TAXI/AUTO DRIVERS BE COVID READY
The drivers of regular black-and-yellow taxis or autorickshaws lack training on COVID-19 safety measures and do not have the resources for upradation, resulting in a higher risk of contracting infections for them and their passengers. As a result, passengers opt for private cab services leading to loss of livelihood for the black-and-yellow taxi/autorickshaw drivers. We are equipping these vehicles with safety screens, providing hygiene and sanitation material and training the drivers on COVID appropriate behaviour to maximise safety. This is done in collaboration with local RTOs and taxi/autorickshaw drivers’ unions.

About Me

MSR is a student social initiative that began its journey in 2011. As an integral part of teaching learning experience, presently the MSR committee endeavors to provide an opportunity to students of the institute to sensitize themselves to the realities of the vast deprived sections of the society and help the needy and the under privileged to aspire for a better tomorrow. Over the years, the MSR student team has organized various programs like blood donation camps, distribution of educational kits to needy kids, new year celebration in the orphanages, "Joy of giving" week, disaster relief, roti donation drive, distribution of cookies in partnership with Robin Hood Army and the like.

In 2017, MSR adopted a tribal village Kondgaon in Palghar District and the students have been working on the verticals of Education, Health and Hygiene, Social Development and Environment. All the PGDM and MMS students of N. L. Dalmia Institute also get an opportunity to visit this village once under the “Rural Immersion” campaign of MSR. The team undertakes about 5 visits a year and work on various verticals so as to support the school students and villagers in their quest for a better tomorrow. As a part of social development program, the MSR committee also organizes “Kondgaon Utsav” wherein the villagers are given access to institute’s premises to put up a village market and sell organically grown vegetables, Warli painted handicrafts and pottery products. These programs serve the purpose of touching and enriching the lives of the people of this village. Through these initiatives over the years, MSR has come a long way and continues to thrive in serving the society.
