Fight Against COVID-19 - UWM's COVID-19 Response

United Way Mumbai has been actively responding to the pandemic since its onset in India. A snapshot of our Covid-19 response efforts in 2020 is given below.

Diabetes Awareness - World Health Day 2019

To commemorate World Health Day, 2019, the United Way Mumbai team initiated a week-long campaign to generate awareness regarding diabetes. Through the week, workers from unorganised sectors, including construction workers, vegetable vendors and autorickshaw drivers were sensitised on diabetes prevention and control. The individuals were also provided with information on how they could access primary healthcare at a minimal cost. 298 workers from the unorganised sectors were tested and sensitised, and 13 of the workers were found to be at high risk for developing diabetes.

International Women's Day - Diabetes Testing and Sensitisation

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, on 8th of March, United Way Mumbai organized a Diabetes Testing and Education camp for Anganwadi Sevikas in Vikhroli. In all, 64 Anganwadi Sevikas were sensitised on key aspects of diabetes as well as tested for the condition. 2 of the Sevikas were found to be at high risk for developing diabetes.

Update on Project Poshan - 21st September 2017

Project Poshan is United Way Mumbai's programme to fight malnutrition in the state of Maharashtra. Through Project Poshan, UWM has conducted various interventions in Raigad district, Maharashtra, in collaboration with the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS). The aim of the interventions has been to ensure that the undernourished children in the region are provided necessary nutritional supplementation, as well as an enabling environment so that they are able to overcome their undernourished status and lead healthy lives. Project Ankur: Rebuilding Uttarakhand

United Way has supported the reconstruction of five government schools in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. The aim has been to ensure that rehabilitation work builds a more secure and self-reliant community, here in Uttarakhand. The reconstructed schools have been made safe and resilient, with enhanced facilities, which provides for an improved and enriching learning environment. 

On October 4th, 2016, the completed schools were handed over to the community. The ceremony included an inauguration by the Hon. Chief Minister Shri Harish Rawat. These schools will now nurture and shape the bright minds of our future. For more information on "Project Ankur", please click here.
