PETA India is an animal rights organization. As a part of our civic issues campaign, PETA & United Way Mumbai are working towards improving the conditions of the animals in the Jijamata Udyan Zoo in Byculla, Mumbai. Jijamata Udyan Zoo in Mumbai, one of the oldest zoos in India, is plagued with a history of controversy.
The Byculla Zoo is in the sorry state of affairs, from chained elephants to small and filthy cages with little to no environmental enrichment and overpopulation of animals - all in violation of Indian norms.
We invite all our members for a visit to the Zoo with the PETA representatives on
