to United Way Mumbai
This is a milestone year for United Way Mumbai as we embark on a
new road of community development in the Year 2004. A road that
takes us straight to the task of initiating and building a movement
called 'Wake-Up India' centered around working people's participation
in bringing about positive change in their communities from their
workplace.
Wake-Up India Payroll Giving
 Our
first milestone this year is the launch of United Way's 'Wake Up
India-Payroll Giving Campaign'. Wake-Up India Payroll Giving Campaign,
focuses on partnering with the corporate sector, in bringing an
energy and dynamism to this Wake-Up India movement, and leveraging
the corporate association in making sure that all our community
development programs follow a 'Giving That Gets Results' path.

In addition, to support the development movement towards accountability,
NGO workforce development and strengthening the health of the nonprofit
sector we are working towards building partnerships with corporates
who will work with us to develop a concrete methodology and assist
in building processes to transfer their knowledge and efficiency
parameters to the development sector.
We continue to build on our four "Community Action Areas"
: Education, Children, Women and Civic Issues and these initiatives
are supported by a strong action towards accountability and measured
results which will be shared on our website before the end of the
financial year.
Working For Development in a United Way
A lot has been achieved in the area of development within India,
and although business forums as well as the NGOs are moving towards
building synergies and partnerships for social responsibility, the
movement has room to gain momentum. Most corporate efforts and programs
till today perhaps still operate in their own niches and seldom
do we see a coming together of corporates and NGOs who join hands
and work together for the communities. Our charter for the year
is mapped towards bringing together of all stakeholders working
in areas of community development, where every milestone is mapped
to lead us directly towards sharing of information, building collaborations
and thereby bringing synergy and increasing impact of social responsibility
campaigns.
The path is long, but with the support of our board, our volunteers,
funders,corporates and NGO partners every step becomes much easier.
