About NGO:

CanKids..KidsCan, a unit of Indian Cancer Society (ICS) Delhi, was set up in January 2004 to provide a range of support services to children with cancer and their families, from moment of diagnosis, through treatment and after - into survivorship, or relapse, palliation and bereavement support.Our vision is to: Help achieve the worldwide childhood cancer survival rate (70-90%) In India over 70% of the children still die of cancer.

• Ensure no child should suffer for treatment due to lack of finances.
• Enable access to a complete range of support services anywhere in India to any child with cancer and his family
• To create an environment where children under treatment for cancer are comfortable, pain-free and have a chance to celebrate life

We have developed a complete range of 18 support services covering the entire spectrum of childhood cancer support, including medical support, emotional and psychological, information, awareness and advocacy.

Fund Usage:

The marathon donation will be utilized for awareness,advocacy, & patient support program fro Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Support in India.

Stem Cell/Bone Marrow transplantation (SCT/BMT)is a potentially life saving treatment for children with cancer,severe immunodeficiency diseases,aplastic anemia,inherited diseases of the bone marrow such as sickle cells anemia and thalassemia and some metabolic diseases.

The total budget of the project is 3 Crore

Impact:

Up until March 2011,a total of Rupees 7 crores(USD 1.89Million) has been raised by Cankids

• Medical Assistance for treatment and investigations ( to over 2500 children since inception in 2004)
• Educational Support -to children during treatment accompanied with financial assistance to get them back to school afterwards ( to over 200 children)
• Information & Awareness- About childhood cancer and all its aspects with a focus on the message that childhood cancer when detected in time and treated properly is curable.
• Emotional & psychological support (to over 4000 children and their families through our parent support group and our counselling clinics)
• Effective reintegration into society- for children getting back to school and college and parents who need to supplement their livlihood
