About NGO:
SPJ Sadhana School has been serving the multiply handicapped and mentally challenged for the last 39 years. The school works ceaselessly towards making such individuals productive & independent members of the society. It focuses on achieving excellence in the field of education and training, thereby enabling it to develop such innovative systems & procedures, which have earned it ISO 9001:2008 certification for its services in this rare and specialized area. A highly trained and motivated team of teachers and professionally qualified therapists, look at all aspects of mental retardation and associated conditions, nurturing the special talents of each individual and encourages the student to develop it. Out of such challenges, special teaching strategies are evolved and are constantly reviewed and upgraded. The school aims to recognize each student as a creative individual and nurture his or her particular ability towards excellence. The school has developed various therapies like Intensive therapy for an autistic child, Sensory Integration therapy, Auditory Retraining, Brain Gym, Music therapy, etc. Art therapy and Animal assisted therapy have shown outstanding results. The school has also won many medals at the International Special Olympics as a result of its sporting activities. Alternative therapies like Laughter therapy and Yoga are also part of the curriculum. Concerts and Exhibitions are organized annually to showcase the artistic talents and creative abilities of students. Sadhana Times is the annual magazine of the school, edited & published in house. All the above wouldn't be possible without the concerted efforts of the Principal, Sister Eileen Gaitonde and the vice-principal, Dr. Radhike Khanna, which have been recognized by several awards.

Fund Usage:
1. The School needs to build a large corpus to be able to provide effective and quality education to our students. 2. We need support to sponsor the fees & lunch for fifty poor students. 3. The hardworking teachers need to be paid as per the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission to keep them motivated as this is a teacher/therapy intensive school. 4. A sum of Rupees Thirteen Lacs is required to pay for the cleaning services, for the maintenance of the school. The school depends on donations from Trusts, Companies and Philanthropic groups/individuals for its funding, which are exempt u/s 80 G of the Income Tax Act. Impact:
This is about one of our students named Nishit Shah. He came to Office procedures with low confidence and poor self-esteem. He was nervous, emotionally disturbed and unsure of himself. We designed a special curriculum keeping in mind his abilities, disabilities and emotional problems. After one year of training, his confidence level improved, therefore we decided to start his internship training programme at Big Bazar, Lower Parel. Training boosted his confidence, as he got an opportunity to interact with different people and felt secure & confident. In spite of him being an Aspergers on the ASD Spectrum, we encouraged and supported him to appear for NOS X and XII examination, which he passed with good grades. After the internship training programme, we trained Nishit for permanent placement at 'Convonix', where he started with a salary of Rs. 1700 and at present he is earning Rs. 20000 per month. Today, Nishit is a great support to his family, both emotionally and financially. Bravo Nishit, we are truly proud of you!
