About NGO:

SOPAN is an association of parents who have children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Its mission is to provide need-based services to people with ASD and empowering their families.

SOPAN aims to achieve this mission through its various projects. Samarpan Centre for Autism Spectrum Disorders is a service run by SOPAN. Samarpan is a school and training facility that offers a variety of services to children and young adults with ASD. SOPAN members are actively involved in creating autism awareness & developing resources for ASD.

Fund Usage:

SOPAN has undertaken a research study to determine the prevalence of autism in 5 states in the western region of india. This study was started 2 years ago. In Mumbai, from June onwards, a community based early intervention program of identified children has been started in an urban poor area called " Pump House" in Andheri (w).The funds raised through marathon will be utilised to provide free services to such children.

Impact:

World Autism Day is celebrated every year by members of SOPAN. This year, we held an awareness campaign at Oberoi Mall, Goregaon (E), Mumbai. The event held in thye lobby of the mall consisted of a variety of activities such as exhibition of products made by individuals with autism, distribution of autism of autism awareness material, documentary film based on autism, street play, and sessions involved active participation of people who visited the mall.
