Raising Funds For

Educational Sponsorship:
The Sponsorship Program of FSC was initiated in 1963 based on the underlying principle of reaching out to the socially and economically vulnerable sections of society, through educational assistance and support to help prevent ultimate fragmentations of the family and the institutionalization of children. Initially prompted by charity and philanthropy it has today however undergone a major conceptual change from the ‘Welfare’ to the ‘Developmental’ approach. As a result, it is no longer focused on providing just monetary aid but also aims to create a positive relationship within the family, bring about an attitudinal change on how the child perceives himself/herself and his/her counterpart in society and also focuses on the child’s participating in alleviating the problems she/he is faced within the society at large, thus aiming to develop socially responsible citizens.

Nutrition:
A number of people in the community are daily wage earners who earn minimum wages and are unable to suffice the needs of the family, hence consuming healthy, nutritious food is not the priority, especially for pregnant women (pre & post), tuberculosis patients, children enrolled in various project like Balwadi, study class, Balmandal. It is imperative to include a high sources of protein and fiber in their diet to improve their health and complement the medication. However, they do not have a sufficient amount of money to buy them. Hence, FSC provides nutrition to needy clients.

Intervention with Youth & Women on job & vocational training:
We are presently emphasizing on skill training and job placement among our youth and women. In the Colaba and Cuffe Parade communities there is a marked increase in unemployment observed among families due to non-availability of adequate work in their traditional occupation as docks workers, this being seasonal.
Hence through counselling, we focus on alternative opportunities for gainful employment, skills trainings and consequent job opportunities. For working thus with the youth and women, we are conducting various personality development sessions or training programmes for the youth and women who have cleared their SSC, HSC or graduation, or those who have discontinued their education. For all of the above, we eagerly look forward to having our own space to conduct these programmes. While our work is ongoing and programmes are held, presently we have to depend on the availability of space from schools and other institutions and only then proceed with our plans. We thus earnestly appeal for assistance for ‘space’ to continue and further our activities.

Awareness session for Community Development:
FSC has interventions with A ward slum community, there are many issues identified and as per need we conduct programs/sessions/meeting with the beneficiaries. The conduct the sessions , we need cost for making posters, modules, stationary material, honorium for expert resource person.
