Celebration of L'Oreal India Citizen Day - The United Way

Celebration of L'Oreal India Citizen Day in partnership with United Way of Mumbai

Education, Science and Health and Hygiene, all important aspects in the growth and well being of an adolescent were given a novel treatment by L'Oreal employees during various events which were held to commemorate L'Oreal Citizen Day on 6th of July, 2012 in partnership of United Way of Mumbai. Around 250 Employee Volunteers spent valuable time interacting with underprivileged students at six different venues in Mumbai. Two major activities were carried out by the employee volunteers:

- Creative Sessions on Health and Hygiene for 120 adolescent girls from different NGOs and Municipal Schools
- Day out for 85 children from an NGO. Fun and Learning !

Sessions on Health and Hygiene for adolescent participants

With the motto of Catching Them Young, around 130 L'Oreal Employees took up the role of the Peer Health Educators for the adolescent girls on vital aspects related to health and hygiene. Total 5 health sessions were carried out by the employee volunteers at 2 NGO shelter homes and 3 municipal schools. Excellent ice breakers had been prepared, taking care of the introductions while dividing all student participants into separate teams. Students worked as a team with the volunteers and the preparedness of the employees and their zesty efforts paid off as the students disarmingly connected with them. It was amazing to see the wonders well thought out activities could enthuse in a program.

A very informative session was held at City of Los Angeles MCGM School, Matunga, where, L'Oreal employees presented a role play on the benefits of keeping a standard of personal hygiene. Similarly, at Lord Harris Municipal School, Fort, volunteers from L'Oreal participated in poster making, skits and Rangoli making activities to drive home the message on personal hygiene. At M.N.H. High School, Dadar, volunteers from L'Oreal were welcomed with roses, who showed their appreciation by graciously matching steps with the students in a 'Garba' performance.

An effort worth a special mention was put up at the MCGM School in Colaba. Here, employees first spent some time with their group of students, discussing the significance of personal hygiene and its role in maintaining good health. This was followed by skits, a fashion show, dance and a quiz, put together quickly yet creatively. These strategies proved to be of immense success to in terms of imparting vital information on health and personal hygiene in creatively. Health and educational kits were provided to each participant to assist them in healthy living and better academic performance.

Day out for children from an NGO. Fun and Learning!

Keeping in mind the aspects of education and science, United Way of Mumbai helped structure and organize one event at the Nehru Science Centre. 83 Children from Salaam Baalak Trust were in for a pleasant surprise. They were treated to the Science Odyssey show on the Jungles of Amazon and a 3D film about pre-historic life and dinosaurs. At the museum, L'Oreal employees explained the different light and sound-related exhibits to the children. Snack boxes were distributed to all the children across all centers. Warm gratitude glowed on their faces as they bid farewell at the end of the event.
