The objective of Isha Vidhya schools is to make quality education accessible and affordable to the rural poor. The schools presently have 6415 children, with approximately 3490 (60%) students on free education supported by donations under a scholarship program, while the rest pay a nominal fee.
In 2015, 400 volunteers of Isha participated in the Mumbai Marathon and raised INR 12,095,992. This amount was used to support scholarships of 288 children, support other activities of 17 schools covered under the Government School Adoption Program and construction of compound wall across 8 Isha Vidhya schools.
2015-16 could be a landmark year as we are hoping to complete critical infrastructure aggregating about 2 crore including classrooms, compound walls, school buses, computers & sports equipment thru Mumbai Marathon. This will ensure all major infrastructure needs of Isha Vidhya schools are completed by this year. So next year onwards we can focus on growing the Govt School Intervention programs quite significantly or building a new IV school in a new district.
In the current year, Isha Vidhya requires to build 11 classrooms, 19 school buses, provide for scholarships and support the 56 Government schools that have been adopted. Isha Vidhya schools are run largely by volunteers and hence cost of fund raising is very low (<2%). Every rupee you donate will be put to effective use.
