India is a land of inequalities; one of the biggest is in education - primary school education. Though our governments build schools and fund them, staffing these government and low-income private schools with skilled, motivated teachers is tough. Most low income families are forced to make a choice of educating one among their children in better schools, paying high fees, and send others to the under-privileged schools, creating inequality even between siblings. What if these under-privileged schools are given a chance of having skilled, motivated and better equipped teachers who understand the situation, and teach with commitment? That’s exactly what Teach For India (TFI) does. They identify fresh graduates interested in teaching, run a stringent selection process, train those selected and place them in the under-privileged schools as teachers for two years.
