Unlike other sports, distance running is a very personal experience. It epitomizes the power of one's dreams and the awareness of one's abilities to realise those dreams. I have been training for the full marathon for couple of months now, with my last run of 18 miles (29 km) on Nov 22. That run brought home the realization that I will have to really push myself way beyond my current capabilities to cross that finish line in January at Mumbai Marathon. As I put myself through rigorous training, I have decided to use this opportunity to raise funds for the underprivileged in India. The Mumbai Marathon is the biggest fund raising platform in India and the Asian subcontinent. The 2014 edition of Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon raised INR 20.11 crores for 269 participating non-profit organisations!!! I have decided to raise funds for Family Service Center in Mumbai. One of their key programs is their adoption services. In India, the adoption procedure is very complex with all the regulations and I personally know of a NGO in Bangalore who stopped their adoption services since it takes away too many resources from their other programs.
