Wouldn’t it be wonderful if our children & youth imbibe values espoused in the PM's national campaign of Swacha Bharat & spread the ripples of change to all citizens? We feel proud to say that CMCA is inspiring at least 17000 young children this year & has impacted a few lakhs over the last 14 years on this path. And it is not merely the obvious values of a Swachh Bharat – physical & aesthetic cleanliness but also cleanliness of the mind: on larger issues of democracy, equality and diversity.
CMCA conducts a national citizenship program in schools - a systematic & structured intervention that sensitises children to civic & democratic issues. A few examples of the impact we have made:
•13 children from Bramasandra Government High School, Tumkur approached the Gram Panchayat to release funds for their entitlement to toilets under the Swachh (Nirmal) Bharat Abhiyan.
•For the last 8 years CMCA children have participated in the beach clean up after Ganpati Visarjan in Mumbai & saved our beaches.
•Civic club members of Kanika Cauvery School, Mysore, confronted the area corporator & requested that the garbage around their school premises be cleared.
These are just a fraction of the inspirational stories that children have been involved in. The locations maybe widespread, the initiatives different, but the unifying & heartening fact is that all these changes were made by CHILDREN.
