Only 3 out of 10 girls who enrol in Grade I complete Grade 10. While enrolment rates have been improving, drop out rates of children from the schools, especially The GIRL CHILD, have been alarming. ASER studies indicate that more than 60% of children in Grade 7 are not able to perform even at basic skills levels expected of Grade 3 students. That 70% of our Girl children, do not even have the opportunity to finish primary and secondary school successfully, is socially, ethically and morally UNACCEPTABLE. Project Nanhi Kali is focused on ensuring that disadvantaged girl children do not drop out from schools and get the inputs that will create opportunities. They do it, not by duplicating existing machinery, but by amplifying the investments in public education. SCMM 2014 was my first (half) marathon run. I finished in 3.31 hrs and raised 1.71 lacs for Nanhi Kali. This year my target is to run under 3 hours and raise at least 5 lacs for our little girls.
