In 10 years of their existence Childline has been able to reach out to 3 million children in need of care and protection and has spread its network to 73 cities.
  

Program Description
1098 Helpline Service
This is a pan India program aimed at providing immediate & effective response to children in need of care and protection and/or in distress across 73 cities.
Coordination of Partner NGOs & Advocacy CHILDLINE India Foundation (CIF) anchors the CHILDLINE service across the nation.
  • It acts as a link between the Governing Board and the NGOs running the CHILDLINE service at the city level
  • Sensitizing the community to child rights issues
  • It advocates for changes in policy and the law on issues related to children

Case Study
Child Labor Rehabilitated: Gauri

13 year old Gauri was into rags picking along with one of her friends. A concerned adult who had seen her in the area called the Mangalore Childline office.

The team immediately visited the spot and spoke to the child. Initially the child refused to divulge any information to the team. However later she revealed that she is basically a native of Hubli and that her parents had passed away in her childhood. She was bought to Mangalore by one of her relatives who had abused her. She had run away from them and did not want to return home.

Gauri was keen on continuing her education. As per her request she was enrolled into a child lab our special school. The team has been following up on her progress.
  

Trafficked Child Repatriated

Kolkata Childline received a call on the 22nd of May 2006 from the Women's Helpline informing about a girl who had they had rescued from the Howrah station. The girl was traumatized and did not interact much with the team members.

As an immediate intervention the girl was put in a permanent residential shelter. Professional counselors thereafter built a rapport with the girl and shared her experiences, which lay the ground for further interventions. Her family was contacted, post police verifications of her antecedents rejoined with her family.
